Hi, I'm Helen!

I'm a bilingual Brit with a 3-decade career in Japan.

My passion to help working women comes from the struggles I’ve seen in my colleagues and clients - as well as my own hardships…

Like the time when I’d caught yet another bug from my daughter in daycare...

I didn’t feel like I could take time off work because we were so busy and short-staffed - and I’d only joined the company a short time ago, so I wanted to give a good impression.

Then, one day, I was coughing severely at my desk, I felt a spasm in my windpipe, and suddenly I couldn’t breathe.

I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

And then I HAD to take time off work.

Even after I recovered, it took me a looooooong time to learn the secret of less effort and more impact, and finally stop overdoing.

My career as an award-winning coach started at McKinsey & Company in Japan, and I've trained and coached thousands of corporate clients, entrepreneurs, and business professionals studying at the Tokyo University Executive Management Program and Waseda Business School.

I'm the author of the book Eigo no Shigoto-jutsu (英語の仕事術), published by Shogakukan, and a Nikkei Woman Smart columnist.

I've been a guest speaker at numerous events, including TEDx Roppongi in 2016, Nikkei's Woman Expo, Google's Womenwill, and FEW (For Empowering Women) Tokyo.

And I'm the host of the Sasuga! Podcast, which hit #2 in Apple Podcasts Japan Careers All Time in August 2021!

Oh, and I’m a mum and karate world champion (Malaysia, 2009).
